Guard What Has Been Entrusted to Your Care

Note from Pastor Kristi

I was recently drawn to Paul’s words to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6. Paul, the wise mentor and father in the faith, gave many encouragements throughout this letter. But one in particular gripped my heart:

“Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge.” – 1 Timothy 6:20 (emphasis mine)

Throughout Scripture, we see the Lord reminding His people that He has a plan and purpose for every life. Part of living that purpose is learning to care well for what He has entrusted to us.

It’s easy to look around and compare—to desire someone else’s opportunities, calling, or influence. Yet Paul’s words call us back to focus. Just as he reminded Timothy, God reminds us: each of us has been given a holy assignment by our Creator.

In His love and wisdom, God has trusted specific things to your care—your family, your ministry, your work, your relationships. These are sacred trusts. Your role is not to chase what belongs to another but to faithfully tend what God has placed in your hands.

So, safeguard what He’s given with gratitude, diligence, and devotion, knowing that your faithfulness brings glory to Him.

“Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care…” – 1 Timothy 6:20

Here are Three Simple Ways to Nurture What God Has Entrusted to You:

1. Stay Rooted in Prayer and the Word of God.

Guarding begins by staying connected to the One who entrusted you with the assignment. Regular prayer and time in Scripture keep your heart aligned with His purposes and protects you from distraction, comparison, and weariness.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23

2. Steward with Faithfulness, Not Perfection.

Be attentive and consistent with what God has placed in your hands—people, responsibilities, or callings. God doesn’t ask for flawless performance. Instead, He asks for steady faithfulness.

Obedience in the small things leads to fruitfulness over time. Walking faithfully with God is a one-day-at-a-time journey.

“It is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2

3. Set Healthy Boundaries and Resist Distractions

Guarding means protecting what matters from what drains.

Say “no” to the things that pull you from your purpose. Make room for rest, renewal, and time with God so you can carry your assignments with strength and joy.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

My Prayer for all of us is this:

Lord, thank You for trusting us with so much—the people, the callings, the purposes You’ve placed in our lives. We don’t take it lightly.

Help us to see what You’ve given us through Your eyes. Teach us to value it, protect it, and walk in it with wisdom.

Keep us rooted in Your presence, Lord—not striving, not comparing—just steady in You. Strengthen us to be faithful day by day, and fill us with joy as we carry what You’ve entrusted to us.

We say, “More, Lord.” More of Your presence, more of Your love, more of Your direction. And we thank You for all You’ve already done. Amen.

With expectation,
