Feasting on God’s goodness
“Taste and see that the Lord is good…” – Psalm 34:8
One of my favorite activities to do with my husband Gary is discovering new foods and flavors. For many years, Gary has been watching food shows and dreaming about dining in Italy. He often says, “Someday, we are going to go there.”
This year, Gary celebrated a significant birthday and has successfully overcome some serious health issues and a surgery. He is now in good health, and we are incredibly grateful. We’ve decided not to wait for that “someday” trip. The time to celebrate and “taste Italy” is now. We are going to Italy to celebrate life, health, and God’s goodness.
As I watch Gary plan and anticipate these wonderful culinary adventures, I think, “What a picture of God’s goodness!” He allows us to taste and experience His goodness and beauty in so many different ways.
In the Bible, God often speaks about feasting, and it’s mostly not about food. Because of God’s love for us and the work of Jesus, we are offered a life filled with celebrations of abundance, joy, and being fully satisfied in God’s presence. Jesus paid an incomparable price for us to live in God’s kingdom here on earth, in our daily lives. Life with Him is meant to be overflowing with goodness.
God Prepares the Table
Psalm 23 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Even in the midst of difficulty, the Lord provides generously for us. His provision is always abundant, and His goodness never runs dry.
A Feast for All Peoples
Isaiah 25 paints an inspiring picture: “On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples…” God’s heart is generous—His generosity and love are not for a select few, but for everyone who will come. You are invited!
Partaking of His Presence
Psalm 36 reminds us, “They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.” His presence is the richest feast of all. When we draw near to Him, we find joy, peace, and satisfaction that nothing else in this world can provide.
The Wedding Supper of the Lamb
Jesus often described the Kingdom of Heaven as a wedding banquet. He has invited us to be part of a joyful celebration where all are welcome (Matthew 22, Luke 14). Revelation 19 says, “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” Every celebration we enjoy now is just a glimpse of the fullness of God’s kingdom.
A Continual Feast
Proverbs 15:15 says, “The cheerful heart has a continual feast.” When our hearts rest in God’s goodness, every day becomes a feast. This joy is not reserved for special occasions—it flows from living close to Him.
So today, I encourage you to pause and accept His invitation. This isn’t a “someday later” invitation. He is setting the table for you now. His presence is your portion, His joy your strength, His love your feast. Come and be filled today—because with Jesus, there is always more than enough.
With expectation,
Pastor Kristi
