Redemption and healing through pastoral counseling
Note from Theresa Anderson, DTB Pastoral Counselor
My name is Theresa Anderson and I have the honor and privilege of being one of the Pastoral Counselors at Dare to Believe Ministries.
Growing up in a dysfunctional family and consequently working through abuse and pain from childhood has brought me on a challenging journey. Because of the love of God and His people, I have experienced God’s healing power in astonishing ways. He never ceases to amaze me in His faithfulness. He restores, He redeems, and He heals.
When God is all you have, you realize that God is all you need.
Jesus pulled me up, healed me and taught me how to have healthy relationships.
My life verse is Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Though that verse may seem cliche’, He has revealed to me that my life has been a training ground that I can now use what I have learned to help others to heal from their painful pasts.
I recognize the ‘Orphan Spirit’ in others now, that which I dealt with for so long, and I am passionate about reminding them that their true identity lies in who they are in Christ.
Through Jesus, we are adopted into the Spirit of Sonship with the Father (Romans 8:15) and we are no longer orphans but sons and daughters of the King of Kings.
The Lord is gracious and is now “working good” through my life as a pastoral counselor.
“Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:23
Pastoral Counseling involves soul work (mind, will and emotions). We counsel a person for the purpose of healing and soothing emotional wounds. We use Biblical truths to explain and apply practical help to people’s lives by praying, encouraging, challenging, correcting and training.
As stated in 2 Tim 3:16, we believe all scripture is God breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. The word of God has power not gained from textbooks or taking psychology courses, but is alive and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow and exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12).
Our primary tools in Pastoral Counseling are providing Biblical counsel to others while letting the Holy Spirit lead. We process and talk with clients and also use prayer tools as they are applicable.
Holy Spirit always shows up and brings His healing presence and anointing to each appointment.
We work with individuals who may need support moving past painful events from their pasts, a shoulder to cry on or just a caring person to listen as they process their pain or grief. Our role is to represent the love and heart of our loving Father.
We do have an enemy who comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) and steal people’s identities. That’s where DTB Pastoral Counseling is most powerful. We are here to pray, encourage, and support individuals through their pain and trauma and remind them of their true identity in Christ.
I have a heart for relationships and families. I believe that ‘whole healthy families are going to change the world.’ For this reason, I am facilitating classes at DTB where I teach the communication tools that I have learned.
I truly love being a Pastoral Counselor at Dare to Believe Ministries. I am grateful to God for all He has done in and through my life.

In Him,
Theresa
