Finding God in setbacks

Note from Pastor Kristi Graner

In our journey through life, we all encounter seasons that test our strength and peace. These experiences, often filled with disappointment and heartache, can leave us feeling lost or forsaken.

Yet, it is in these challenging times that we actually have an important choice: to pull back from our faith or to lean in even more to God.

Choosing to trust in God during our low points holds the potential to transform our struggles into steps for growth and purpose.

Here are some considerations to help you find hope and strength in God’s presence, even when circumstances seem bleak.

1. REMEMBER THAT WHAT OTHERS MEAN FOR EVIL, GOD MEANS FOR GOOD.

Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. Years later, he told them: “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” -Genesis 50:20

Joseph’s brothers clearly had no good intentions for him. I am certain that Joseph wondered why God had left him to be mistreated by his brothers and others.

Despite his circumstances, Joseph chose to press into God and as a result, destiny came out of his disappointment.

2. ALLOW GOD TO WORK WITH YOU TO CAUSE YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT TO STRENGTHEN YOUR CHARACTER.

Many times, God will work in a season of disappointment to produce endurance and good character in us.

“We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and ENDURANCE produces CHARACTER, and character produces hope…” -Romans 5:3-4

If you are going through disappointment, keep on going! Don’t stop. Don’t quit. Don’t doubt God’s call on your life.

When you trust God, walk by faith, believe God’s promises, and stay thankful, you will become a better version of you. The Holy Spirit will develop the character of Jesus inside your spirit and soul.

3. REMEMBER, GOD ALWAYS HAS A PLAN.

Consider these Biblical examples:

• Esther was promoted to the position of queen to protect the Jewish nation from genocide.

• David brought food to his brothers and ended up killing Goliath.

• Moses’ basket floated right into the bathing waters of Pharaoh’s daughter and became her adopted son.

Relax. Let God work.

“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” – Philippians 2:13

Disappointment and pain cannot stop your destiny.

Be patient, grateful, and faithful.

One day, you will look up and see that God had a plan to bless you despite the challenges you are currently facing!

“God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28

With expectation,
Pastor Kristi
