God Rules!

This ceiling will never get painted! There, in the corner above my book cases, on the slightly yellowed popcorn ceiling is written in pencil, in a child’s handwriting, “God Rules”. A simple two-word statement from a child’s hand decades ago brought an unexpected and much needed calm to my spirit.

A season to remove boulders

One spring, I was introduced to the challenging and confusing practice of picking rocks in the newly-plowed and very muddy field. Our job was to pick up rocks and throw them on a flatbed trailer. When the trailer was full, it was taken over to another area where the rocks were added to an ever-growing stone wall. I was confused. If this farm had been in the family for generations…if they picked rocks EVERY spring…then why were there still rocks in the field?
